Hungry? Got nothing to listen to? Tired of bland noodles?
Portland rapper ¥ung ¢hef has you covered with an ode to the cheapest of cheap eats, “Top Ramen,” that is likely to be theme song for every famished freshman come fall semester.
Not Top Ramen by itself, though, which can be bland without accompaniment. ¥ung ¢hef, also known as Eddie Wollrabe, also with accompaniment from collaborator Doughboi, keeps it spicy with mandatory Sriracha sauce.
“Me and my group we roll out/We buy boxes man, we go all out/We boiling Sriracha and eggs/Them stupid Cup-a-Noodles, they fake,” Doughboi raps in the song’s music video as he boots the subpar noodles from a shopping cart filled with the good stuff.
The video is worth watching for Doughboi’s outfit alone, which looks like a sweatsuit made of ramen wrappers, but it was also filmed in Portland so you might just catch a glimpse the corner store where you buy your own Top Ramen.
The song seems to be picking up steam quickly, too. Posted in mid-July, the video had already racked up nearly 140,000 views by Monday afternoon. You can have a listen to the rest of what ¥ung ¢hef has cooked up — including “Hit me witta crust,” featuring Doughboi and “Better,” featuring Kale (no relation to the author) — on Soundcloud.
