“Comic Book Heaven” is a wonderful short documentary that tells the story of an interesting character named Joe Leisner, who is the owner of a comic book store in Sunnyside, Queens, NY called Comic Book Heaven. (CHECK IT OUT BELOW)
When I was growing up in the early 1990s, I spent a great deal of time in my local comic book shop reading comics and spending my money. I walked into that shop recently. and it just wasn’t the same. So much had changed and it wasn’t loaded with the amount of people that it used to be. These days you can read all of your comics and buy all your toys online. Even though comic book movies are blowing up in Hollywood and audiences are loving them, the small comic book stores are slowly dying off. This film gives us some insight on that as it was made during the lead-up to the closure of Joe’s store.
The short was directed by E.J. McLeavey-Fisher, and what makes it so entertaining is Joe. The guy is a extremely colorful character, and it’s fun listening to him talk and tell his stories. Please take the time to watch this. You won’t be disappointed.
